LUMECCA IPL

Lumecca IPL

Intense pulsed light covers the whole face at once, treating pigmentation and redness together. Where a laser uses a single wavelength to target one thing, IPL uses a broad spectrum — which is why it suits people whose concerns include both brown spots and visible redness.

Who it suits

  • Sun spots, freckles and redness all at once
  • Overall dullness you would like to brighten
  • Redness around the nose or visible capillaries on the cheeks
  • Post-acne redness that will not settle
  • You would rather avoid wearing tape after treatment

PackagesALL-INCLUSIVE

Each package covers the consultation with the doctor, the treatment named in that package, topical anaesthetic where it is used, and aftercare guidance. Nothing is added to the price of the package itself. If you decide during the consultation to add a further treatment, an additional area, or a stronger anaesthetic, that is charged separately — the doctor will tell you the amount before anything is carried out.

ABOUT PRICING

Prices are shown in US dollars. Payment is taken in Japanese yen at the equivalent amount shown, by cash or credit card. The conversion is fixed at ¥160 to the dollar and is reviewed quarterly, so it will not track the daily exchange rate.

About additional charges. The package price covers the treatment you select. Adding another treatment, another area, or an option such as nitrous oxide sedation or a blunt cannula is charged on top. The doctor explains the cost before proceeding, and you are free to decline.

LANGUAGE

How we communicate. Consultations are usually conducted with the help of a translation app, which our staff use routinely and which works well for the questions that come up in a consultation. Some of our doctors and staff can also handle straightforward English. Please write down anything you particularly want to ask before your visit — it makes the consultation smoother, and you are welcome to send questions on LINE in advance.

What happens

  1. Book

    Reserve online or on LINE.

  2. Consultation

We check the type of pigmentation and the degree of redness, and adjust settings if melasma is present.

  3. Cleansing

    Make-up is removed.

  4. Treatment

About 20 minutes. It feels like a rubber band snap; anaesthetic is usually not needed.

  5. Go home

Make-up can be applied straight away.

  6. Healing

Spots darken over about three days, then lift as fine flakes within five to seven days.

Risks and side effects

Redness, temporary darkening of pigmented spots and fine crusting occur. This darkening is expected and resolves in five to seven days; rubbing the skin can cause lasting pigmentation. Treatment is not performed on recently tanned skin because of the risk of burns.

Who cannot be treated

Not suitable if you are recently tanned, pregnant, have photosensitivity, or have a tattoo in the treatment area. Settings are adjusted if melasma is present.

Please note

Results vary between individuals and no particular outcome can be guaranteed. This is elective private treatment and is not covered by Japanese national health insurance.

The device, product or needle used is selected by the doctor based on your skin condition, your goals and your condition on the day. For detailed questions, asking the doctor directly at your consultation is the most reliable way. You may also ask on LINE, but technical questions need to be checked with our clinical staff first, so a reply may take some time.

Questions

How is this different from a laser?
A laser targets one wavelength; IPL covers a broad spectrum, so it treats brown pigment and redness in the same session.
Is there visible downtime?
Spots darken and flake over about a week, but the flakes are very fine and no tape is required. Make-up can be worn throughout.
How many sessions do I need?
Three to five, spaced three to four weeks apart, is the usual course.
Does it help with rosacea-type redness?
It can reduce visible capillaries and general facial redness. This is one of the most common reasons people choose Lumecca over a laser.
Can I do this on a short trip?
Yes — there is no tape and make-up can be worn immediately, which makes it one of the more travel-friendly options.
Does it hurt?
It feels like a rubber band snap. The handpiece cools the skin surface as it works.
