FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Questions we are most often asked by patients visiting from overseas. If something is not covered here, message us on LINE.

Booking and your visit

Can I have a consultation in English?
Yes. Please mention it when you book so we can arrange it. LINE enquiries in English are also welcome.
Do I need to book in advance?
Booking is recommended, especially for evenings and weekends, but same-day slots are often available. You can book online or on LINE.
Can I be treated on the same day as the consultation?
In most cases yes, for injectables and laser treatments. Thread lifts and surgical procedures are booked for a separate day.
What should I bring?
Photo identification such as a passport, and details of any medication you take.
Is there a consultation fee?
It is free if you proceed with a treatment or prescription. If you decide not to go ahead, a fee of ¥5,500 applies.

Payment and pricing

How do I pay?
In Japanese yen, by cash or credit card. We cannot accept payment in foreign currency.
Are the US dollar prices exact?
No. They are shown for reference only, converted at a fixed rate of ¥160 to the dollar. The amount charged is the yen price.
Are there course contracts or packages I have to sign up for?
No. You pay for each treatment as you have it, and there is nothing to cancel afterwards.
Is tax included?
Yes, all prices shown include consumption tax.
Can I claim on travel insurance?
Elective aesthetic treatment is not usually covered. Please check with your insurer before travelling.

Treatment and recovery

Which treatments suit a short trip?
Botulinum toxin, filler, Lumecca and HIFU have little or no visible downtime. Pico laser involves small tapes for about a week. Thread lifts need one to two weeks and are not suited to the end of a trip.
Can I fly after treatment?
Yes for injectables, lasers and HIFU. After a thread lift, flying is possible but swelling is at its worst in the first few days.
Will I need a follow-up visit?
Not for most treatments. If a review would be useful and you have left Japan, we can follow up on LINE.
What if something goes wrong after I return home?
Contact us on LINE. We will advise, and where local medical care is needed we will explain what was done so a doctor where you are can act on it.
Do you use approved products?
Some products and devices are not approved in Japan and are imported by the doctor. Each treatment page sets out the approval status, how the product is obtained, whether an approved equivalent exists, and overseas safety information.

Other

Do you treat men?
Yes. Hair removal, botulinum toxin and skin treatments are all available.
Is there an age limit?
Patients under 20 require consent from a parent or guardian.
Do you offer treatments not listed on this site?
Yes — the English pages cover eight treatments chosen for short stays, but we offer considerably more. Ask on LINE and we will tell you what is possible within your dates.
Can I get a receipt for my employer or insurer?
Yes, please ask at reception.
Are the two clinics different in price or quality?
No. Pricing and treatments are identical. Choose whichever is more convenient.

Medication & delivery

Can you post medication to my hotel?
Yes, to a hotel where you are staying. Before booking, please confirm with the hotel that it will accept the delivery — some medication, including Mounjaro, is sent refrigerated and not every hotel will hold it.
Can I choose the delivery date?
No. We dispatch in order after the consultation and cannot specify a date. Please allow plenty of time within your stay, or collect the medication at the clinic instead.
What if I cannot receive the delivery?
If the medication cannot be received — because of hotel policy, your departure, or any other reason — we are unable to offer a refund or replacement. If there is any doubt, please collect it at the clinic.
Can you ship to my home country?
No. Our delivery service covers addresses in Japan only. Rules on carrying prescription medication across borders vary by country and are your responsibility to check before travelling.

Language & communication

Do your doctors speak English?
Consultations are usually conducted with the help of a translation app, which our staff use routinely and which handles the questions that come up in a consultation well. Some of our doctors and staff can also manage straightforward English. We do not promise a fully English-language consultation, but communication is not a barrier in practice.
How can I make the consultation go smoothly?
Write down what you want to ask before you come, or send your questions on LINE in advance. Having the key points ready in writing works better with a translation app than trying to explain them on the spot.
Can I contact you by email?
Yes. Write to english@tokyosilkclinic.com. Please write in English, or in your own language if that is easier — we use translation tools. Replies are sent during reception hours, 11:00–20:00 Japan time, so allow for the time difference.
Can I bring my own interpreter?
Yes. You are welcome to bring someone with you, or to use a video call with a friend during the consultation.
Will there be charges beyond the package price?
Not for the treatment named in the package. If you decide during the consultation to add another treatment, another area, or an option such as nitrous oxide sedation, that is charged separately — and the doctor tells you the amount before anything is carried out. You are free to decline.
